2011: M&I acquisition
When BMO acquired Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (M&I) in 2011, it became the 11th largest bank in North America by number of branches. At the time, M&I was the largest Wisconsin-based bank, with 192 offices throughout the state and 374 branches.
